SPECIAL EVENT anlässlich des 70. Geburtstags von Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. H. James Birx!
Jahrhunderts waren. Moderation: Dr. Hans Otto Seitschek Wissenschaftlicher Assistent am „Guardini-Lehrstuhl“der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München Unkostenbeitrag: € 10.-/7.-/Studierende 2.50 Bitte bringen Sie interessierte Freunde und Bekannte mit! SPECIAL EVENT in honor of the 70th birthday of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. H. James Birx! Three Presentations Monday, 27 June 2011 / 7 PM at Seidlvilla Prof. Dr. Irina Deretic In this presentation, prof. Deretic attempts to discuss the much-discussed topic of Nietzsche's account of Greek Tragedy from the perspective of his understanding of the relation between drama and philosophical dialectics. In this context, Nietzsche's comparison between Socrates and Euripides and his criticism of Plato's criticism of Greek Drama should be particularly elucidated. Dr. Stefan Lorenz Sorgner, BA, MA Nietzsche sees himself as physician of culture. During the process of alienation which followed the period during which existed a “star-friendship” between Wagner and Nietzsche, Nietzsche hinted at pathological and nervous aspects in Wagner's works and him as a person. Both aspects are paradigmatic for the modern arts. Wagner, however, also criticized the degeneration processes of modernity and wanted to overcome them. On the basis of this tight network of biographical and theoretical themes, I present some reflections which can be helpful for the understanding of our contemporary posthumanist culture. Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. H. James Birx Prof. Birx will share his professional insights on Wagner's Ring cycle and Nietzsche's eternal recurrence. He'll stress that the ideas of both geniuses are as relevant today and for the human future as they were at the end of the nineteenth century. Moderator: Admission: € 10.-/7.-/students 2,50 Supported by the Culture Unit of the City of Munich
